About the project

Budgeting software should work for the household using it.

It's a Budget began as a practical household tool and is being prepared for an eventual open-source release.

Why build another budget app?

Because the hard part is rarely arithmetic. It is maintaining a trustworthy picture of what has happened, what is planned, and what can safely happen next. The project aims to make that picture direct and calm.

Principles

Understandable

Important balances and calculations should be explainable, not magical.

Private by design

Financial information deserves conservative defaults and careful boundaries.

Portable

The intended open-source release will prioritize self-hosting, export, and user control.

Project status

It's a Budget is under active development. It is not yet distributed publicly, and there is no official hosted service. Screens shown on this website use fictional data and may differ from the eventual release.
